Speech contests are one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of the Toastmasters experience. Here is your complete guide to speech contests in District 220 for the 2026-2027 season.
The Five Contest Types
Toastmasters International offers five official speech contest types: 1. International Speech — the flagship. Club, Area, Division, District, Region, and World Championship levels. Speeches are 5–7 minutes. 2. Humorous Speech — fall contest. Comedic speeches of 5–7 minutes. 3. Table Topics — impromptu two-minute responses to a theme or question. 4. Evaluation — evaluate a prepared speech and deliver your evaluation in 2–3 minutes. 5. Tall Tales — storytelling with exaggeration and humor, 3–5 minutes.

How to Participate
Contact your club President or VP Education to sign up as a contestant for your club's contest. Club contests are open to all members in good standing who have completed at least one Pathways project. No prior contest experience required.
Contest Rules
All contests are governed by the Toastmasters International Speech Contest Rulebook, available at toastmasters.org. Contestants and contest officials must be familiar with the rules before competing.
